Over the years, I would push myself to paint a still life and discipline myself not to layer it or push it back to the minimalist aesthetic that I prefer, I will paint from my original photographs with as much detail as possible to reproduce the image in another medium on the canvas.

The underpainting selection show a few of my favorite faces, these are sometimes small studies I do or the first stages before layering for my final dichromatic works. The underpaintings are important in creating a value study establishing the dark and light areas as well as defining the composition.
