The first moments the artist puts pencil to paper and starts to create are often discarded, crumbled up and thrown away. These initial thoughts will be deemed as not worthy, not precise, something missing, when in fact they are actually the purest forms of the work, only to be followed by the arduous task of completing the subsequent idea once it flourishes to full bloom. As with the writer understanding the importance of captivating readers from the very first sentence, the musician humming the words in his head or the poet with his ever-faithful notebook, the artists ideas are always recorded or stored in some manner. Not being exempt from this process, there would be many a day my studio floor would be littered with such papers. Unravelling the discarded paper resulted in this new series of works. My goal was to paint the idea.
